Accessing Your Lab
After logging into Element K, follow these steps to access your labs.
  • Click the Professional Development tab located on the top of the page.
  • Select “Development Paths.” NETW230 will be listed on this page.
  • Click on NETW230 to see the labs.
  • Your labs will be found under the appropriate week.
Starting Your Lab
There are two ways to start a lab activity.
  • Schedule it. (Recommended)
Because you will be accessing live equipment, the number of students who can simultaneously perform a lab is limited by the available resources. If you plan to perform your labs during busy times (i.e., weekends), it is recommended that you schedule the lab to make sure that lab resources will be available when you are ready.
  • Start it right away.
Note: If all lab resources are currently being used when you try to start your lab, you will be given an opportunity to schedule the lab at a later time.
Remember This
Please Note: The time displayed at the start of the lab does not indicate the length of time it will take you to complete the lab. It represents the total time that network resources are reserved to you.

STEP 1: Download the templateBack to top
Download this week’s Lab Report Template. You will use this template to create your lab report as you execute your lab. This lab just requires a single screenshot but subsequent weeks will require quite a bit more work.
Here are some instructions on how to capture screenshots for your lab report.
  1. Complete the lab step that you would like to capture in a screenshot.
  2. Click on the server’s desktop that contains the window you want to capture.
  3. Hold down the ALT key and press the Print Screen key on your keyboard to copy it to your clipboard. On some keyboards, it is written as Print Scrn or PrtSc. Also, on some laptops you also have to hold down the Fn key.
  4. Click on your Lab Report (this document).
  5. Scroll to the point in the Lab Report where you what the screenshot to appear.
  6. Right-click and select Paste, or press Ctrl + V.
  7. Once your screenshot appears in your Lab Report, click on your lab and continue to the next step.
